Tom Yawkey loved baseball, having grown up around the game, played at Yale University, and as longstanding owner of the Boston Red Sox, which he purchased in 1933 upon his 30th birthday. During their lifetimes, Tom and his wife Jean Yawkey were committed to supporting youth athletics so that everyone had the opportunity to play and enjoy the game of baseball.
